Cut down your own Christmas tree. Go to a place that has plenty to choose from, remember to bring a saw. Trees from a farm will last way longer than a store bought one.
I have to severely disagree on this point - only from experience.
Every year the fam and I went to Skyline and cut down our own Christmas tree. This was until about 8 years ago the dog had 3 ticks, mom had one, I had two, and my sister caught one before it bit. It was nearly $5,000 in doctors/vet bills, plus we left the tree outside for 3 days and caught even more ticks in the water bucket it was in.
Needless to say, it was the most expensive Christmas ever.
